Tuesday Newton Farmers' Market Assistant.

FULL TIME FARM WORKER (FILLED)
This position would be for general farm labor, and would have a concentration area in
salad harvest and processing, running our Newton farmers’ market stand, and a small amount of time tracking.
Salads are a huge part of our farm, and we produce a high quality product for markets and wholesale. This position would assist in all aspects of harvest through processing. A strong back is essential, plus cleanliness (it is a triple washed ready-to-eat product), and maintaining a high quality standard.
Starting in July, Tuesdays will be a long day, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., involving driving to and from Newton in our box truck. Exceptional customer service skills as well as interest in food and consumer connection with local agriculture. Applicant must have excellent: math skills and money handling skills, attention to detail, ability to lift 50 pounds and work a long day with a smile, be reliable, punctual and professional, be trainable, and have the ability to work in various weather conditions.
Time tracking requires excellent organizational skills and Excel competency. For background information on time tracking, check out this video. Time tracking is already established on our farm, so this job would mainly involve collecting data from fellow employees and compiling the information.
From May through the end of June the workweek is Monday through Thursday plus either Friday or Saturday. From July through October, the workweek is Monday through Thursday (with Tuesday being the long day at Newton described above).
SATURDAY AMHERST FARMERS'
MARKET ASSISTANT (FILLED)
Join one person from our full time crew to run our Farmers’ Market stand at the Amherst Saturday Farmers’ Market. The Farmers’ Market Assistant will have exceptional customer service skills, be a sharp and enthusiastic ‘morning’ person, and have an interest in food and consumer connection with local agriculture. Applicant must have excellent math skills and money handling skills, attention to detail, ability to lift 50 pounds and work a long day with a smile, be reliable, punctual and professional, be trainable, and have the ability to work in various weather conditions. The work day starts and ends at the farm. June 1st through November 23rd; Saturdays 5:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Ideally this person would also fill other single day positions available (Sunday and Monday).
SUNDAY FARM WORKER (FILLED)
This position mainly consists of solo work: opening greenhouses, watering, chores, cleaning, and flower harvest. It is crucial to our farms strong start to the week by having a clean and on-going operation. Applicant must have the ability to work independently in any weather condition, be trainable, have attention to detail, and possess a variety of general farm skills. June through September; 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Ideally this person would also fill other single day positions available (Saturday and Monday).
MONDAY FARM WORKER (FILLED)
This position involves general flower and vegetable harvest and field work with the crew. 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Ideally this person would also fill other single day positions available (Saturday and Sunday).
TUESDAY NEWTON FARMERS' MARKET ASSISTANT
(AVAILABLE)
July 2nd through October 29th; Tuesdays; Noon - 6:45 p.m, plus (up to 40) additional hours over the season marketing for Old Friends Farm (carrying out the farms’ Newton/Boston marketing plan). Join one person from our full time crew to run our farmers’ market stand at the Newton Tuesday Farmers’ Market. Exceptional customer service skills as well as interest in food and consumer connection with local agriculture. Applicant must have excellent math skills and money handling skills, attention to detail, ability to lift 50 pounds and work a long day with a smile, be reliable, punctual and professional, be trainable, have the ability to work in various weather conditions, have creative marketing skills and the ability to implement them. The work day starts and ends at the market.

General qualifications for all positions:
Interested applicants should be enthusiastic about local organic agriculture, ideally have a minimum of two complete growing seasons of farming experience, be energetic, be able to work outdoors in any weather conditions, be self-motivated and work well with a crew, have excellent quality control while working quickly and efficiently. Knowledge and experience with cut flower production a plus. Must be trustworthy, reliable and responsible.

Compensation:
Pay starts at $9 per hour for all new positions.
Workers must work the complete season. We do not accept applications for those who need to end work early for school- sorry!
Returning workers have longer work seasons.
Full time positions have the option of taking one week off during the season, unpaid. Employees cannot take their week off together.
Full time positions have two available sick days.
We do not offer housing for any position.
We offer workers compensation.
